Dunhuang is a town located in northwest China on an oasis containing attractions such as Crescent lake and Mingsha Shan. However, despite these sites, its role in the Silk Road is much more influential to it's history. For those who don't know, or might need a refresher, the Silk road was a network of routes that connected much of Asia, the coast of east Africa and Arabia. Goods like olive oil, wine, timber, ivory, and, obviously, silk. Caravans were used to travel much of the road, which involved manpower, and camel power. This allowed towns on and around the silk road to thrive under the large amounts of traffic that came and stopped to rest. Dunhuang was located in between the Taklimakan and Gobi deserts.
